Tin Woodsman is a hard-working, friendly denizen of Oz, who, through unfortunate circumstances, has had his human body econstructed out of tin. However, as he was rebuilt, the smith who helped him forgot to replace his heart, and he has been burdened with an inability to love ever since.

Still, he is a steadfast in his kindness and courage, and when a girl names Dorothy tumbles into his homeland, he accompanies her on her journey in hopes of obtaining a new heart. But by the adventure’s end it is apparent that he has enough heart for the entire group, and that he had it all along.

Untiring, proud, and altogether heartfelt after all, Tin Woodsman is one of the most endearing characters in all of literature
